The struggle we have of trying to rid ourselves of pimples and acne can be a very frustrating struggle. Especially since they eventually turn into scars that generally become very unsightly over time. This tends to play havoc with our self-esteem.

In addition, our young people, and I�m talking about our sons and daughters, face continual hardship when their acne is really bad.

Depending on how well a child has been nurtured and prepared by their parents, even a mild case of acne can bring a surprising reaction from the child.

Acne is the most diagnosed skin disorder in the United States. Let no one kid you, we are dealing with a monster here. It is a serious problem and we should treat it as such.

Our primary approach to curing ourselves of acne must come from the area of our diet. Did you know that prior to 1950, Canadian Eskimos, up to that point in their history, never had acne?

Is that startling? Well how about this? When so called �modern food� was introduced into their diet, along came acne. I didn�t say that all efforts should be focused toward the diet. I said that our primary approach should come from the area of our diet.

Blackheads, whiteheads, pustules, infected sacs and cysts. We�ve been told countless times about the sebaceous or oil glands and how they get clogged. Then bacteria multiply, and along comes inflammation.

Did you know that some people, a very few though, have acne all their lives? How bad is that? In spite of all that, there is hope! Acne comes because of the things you do, and the things you don�t do. Let me explain that.

When you eat too much meat, eggs, denatured flour, and white sugar, something inside of your body has to go awry.

On the other hand, when you do not eat the more wholesome foods like fresh vegetables, whole grains and fruits, the body doesn�t get enough of the foods that it does need.

How often do you get a bath? So you take good care of your outer body. How often do you bathe your inner body? What am I talking about? No one can wash and bathe the inner body? I beg to differ.

When was the last time that you ate an apple? An apple washes and scrubs the inner body just like Mr. Clean does on the commercial. The old clich� that an apple a day keeps the doctor away may be time-worn, but it�s true.

The action of an apple working on the inside of the body is truly amazing. Eat plenty of fruits. They wash, bathe and cleanse the inside of the body. The more natural the fruit is, the better it is for you.

Only eat store bought canned fruits when you absolutely cannot get fresh fruit. Always wash your fruit before eating, and soak dried fruit, prunes and apricots.

And lastly, always, but always have yourself a banana everyday. For the wonderful women who are expecting a baby, snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Has your child been bitten by a mosquito? Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Surprised? Here's a little more. Bananas contain potassium. It is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance.

And finally, according to research in The New England Journal of Medicine, eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%! Do monkeys know something that we don't?

How To Take Care of Your Acne Prone Skin

Have you given up and resigned yourself to the idea that there is nothing you can do to stop your pimples? Have you minimized your social life because of the dreaded thought that people might stare and find your acne disgusting? Studies show that up to 80 percent of those who seek treatment for their acne problem can actually be helped. Just take time to go to your doctor and inform him what you have been doing to fight against your pimple problem.

If you have an acne prone skin, pamper it. Be gentle with your skin and avoid vigorous scrubbing. Vigorous scrubbing can actually irritate your skin and may worsen blocked pores. The oil trapped beneath the surface of the skin causes pimple break-outs and no vigorous scrubbing can get rid of it. Instead, try gentle washing with warm water and soap then pat dry. A skin cleanser will do as well. Do it once or twice a day. Regular shampooing is also advisable since pimples often appear on the forehead. If you have oily hair, wash it daily and keep it off you face as much as possible. Avoid using hair products with oil like pomades and gels.

Don't pop or squeeze your pimples. We always have the tendency to pop or squeeze our pimple whenever it appears on our face. Avoid this bad habit and keep your hands away from your face as much as possible. Your hands usually carry germs that will further irritate your skin and popping your pimple will just cause irritation and probably skin infection.

Learn to read and understand labels. Use only cosmetics that are non-comedogenic which means they won't block pores. Make it a habit to remove your makeup each night with soap and water and try skipping the moisturizer.

Protect your skin from sunlight and avoid tanning booths. Tanning only masks your acne and it doesn't clear it. Wear sunscreens and avoid getting sunburn. Some acne treatments can increase your skin's sensitivity to sunlight.

If you are taking any medications, try to check with your physician or pharmacist of any complications or possible effects that the drug might cause.

There are over the counter products that can help curb your acne. Products containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide can help treat mild acne. Begin with the weakest formula and work your way up.

Finally, if everything else fails after a few weeks of treatment, seek your physician's or dermatologist's help. Your doctor should determine whether your problem is acne or some allergic reaction to makeup, lotions or from drugs or another skin disease. A topical or oral medication might be prescribed by your doctor to lessen the problem. In some severe cases, a hormone therapy might be prescribed as a last resort. When using drugs to combat your pimple problem, be sure to ask about side effects and any precautions you need to take. There are topical creams that increase your sensitivity to sunlight. Some antibiotics can increase your risk of yeast infections and can upset your stomach.

a number of things you can do everyday to make sure your skin is less
prone to flare ups. Here are five tips for taking control of your
acne starting today.

1. Exercise - Keeping in shape can help fight acne by fighting off
negative stress levels that can come from negative self-esteem and
depression. However, some safeguards need to be in place to ward off
acne that can result from your workout routines. Watch what you put
on your body with regards to clothing, sports gear and equipment.

For example, tight lycra and nylon exercise outfits might look
great in the movies and on magazine models, but if you are
susceptible to acne problems, avoid these synthetic fabrics that tend
to trap in body moisture and heat resulting in a bacteria frenzy.
Instead, choose loose clothing made of cotton or natural blends to
allow more air to get to your skin.

And when you are finished with your workout, get out of clothing wet
from perspiration or water sports. Shower and change into dry, clean
clothing. And keep your sports gear and equipment clean, too. Dirty
headgear, for instance, can irritate forehead areas prone to acne
problems. So toss headbands into the washing machine after workout
sessions.

2. Cosmetics - To avoid pore-clogging and skin irritations that are
similar to acne and that can contribute to acne, use products labeled
noncomedogenic or oil-free. Shimmering facial colors can contain a
flaky mineral called mica that can cause skin irritations and clog
pores. Other additives in coloring that can cause similar reactions
are coal tar derivatives, carmine and heavy cream in blushes.

More preventative measures include using a lip gloss that promotes a
matte finish instead of a high gloss for less pore-clogging; note the
more the shine, the more then comedogenic content and the more the
pores can clog. Beware that eye creams can contain heavier
concentrations of moisturizers than regular creams and lotions,
meaning they have greater potential to clog pores in the surrounding
facial areas.

3. Diet - Studies show that diet does not play a role in either the
cause or the treatment of acne. However, what is recommended for acne
preventative care is this: what is best for your body is best for
your skin, especially since your skin is the largest organ of your
body. So remember to watch your diet and consume healthy vitamins,
minerals and other supplements. This will help to prevent and help
conquer acne breakout.

4. Hygiene - A healthy skin regimen should include no harsh
scrubbing or over-washing, because this can cause possible skin
irritation or possible over production of oil to replace what has
washed off, clogging pores in the process. Products with gentle
exfoliation ingredients are OK to use; i.e. not scratchy nut or fruit
shell pieces that can tear skin. And skip alcohol products when
possible; these can take off the top layer of your skin and cause
your glands to product more oil, clogging pores in the process.

If you do spot acne-troubled areas, do NOT mess with them. Remember
that these are already weeks in the making, and squeezing or picking
blemishes can force the infected area to regress back inside, further
troubling the region and possibly leave a scar. If necessary, seek
help from a dermatologist for alternative treatments.

5. Shaving - Shaving for both genders is actually an excellent way
of exfoliating or removing dead skin to help with the prevention and
spreading of acne instead of leaving the remains to clog pores. And
for some light acne cases already in process, shaving can help rid
whiteheads and blackheads from the face. A word of caution: for areas
with infection or high inflammatory activity (redness, sensitive,
open acne, sores, etc.), do not shave. Or at the very least, use a
shaving cream for sensitive skin!

How to Get Rid of Acne

I don't know about you, but this has got to be one of the biggest problems that males and females alike face at some point in their lives, whether it's as a young person, when you are pregnant, or when you are on some anti-biotics that have nasty side effects!

Either way, you always feel pretty low about yourself if your face is covered in acne.

There are far too many drug-based (man-made) products that are advertised for curing acne that have even nastier side effects and I know for me, I have always looked for an alternative, preferring to go with something natural or something that nature has come up with to combat some ailment I might have.

When I was younger and at high school I was fortunate enough to not have bad acne, I would break out around my period time, but that was about it. Unfortunately, my sister was not so lucky and constantly had bad acne for a good 3 years of her adolescent life... not fun.

Mum and Dad tried lots of different ointments, pills, etc, but none seemed to work for longer than a few weeks and normally after this time, the acne would come back 10 times worse!

So, they set about looking at alternatives to help combat her acne. Here is a list of the different and natural alternatives that were used:

- Transfer Factors Gel. Transfer Factors are found in Colostrum (within Cows and Chickens)

- Oleum Melaleuca is a traditional Aboriginal remedy from Australia

- Oleum Lavandula is well-known for its soothing and healing properties

- Calendula Officinalis is a powerful astringent, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory herb

- Echinacea purpurea for its antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial properties

And many others, but these were the main ones. The best thing to do is visit your local health shop and look for specific Acne products and check to see if they contain these ingredients. It might take a little longer and cost a little more than our man-made medicines... but overall, it is far better for your body in the long-term and your skin will thank you for it!

And my sister... she has no scarring and there is no trace of the bad acne she suffered when she was younger. She is now 27 and gorgeous... but I am biased :-)
